Crystal Palace v Man Utd
Premier League
Thursday 16th July 2020
Selhurst Park Stadium
Crystal Palace appear to have downed tools for the 2019/20 season, following a 2-0 win over Bournemouth after the restart they have suffered 5 successive Premier League Defeats, more worryingly for Roy Hodgson will be the fact that the goals have really dried up and they have scored just 2 goals in those 5 defeats. They were very poor on Sunday when beaten 2-0 by relegation threatened Aston Villa at Villa Park. With a tough run of fixtures to end the season (Man Utd H) (Wolves A) and (Tottenham) the Eagles could end the season with 8 successive losses.
Team News
Whilst 3 of the defeats have come against teams in the top 6 (Liverpool 4-0) Leicester (3-0) and (Chelsea 2-3) it will be the results and performances in the losses to Burnley (0-1) and Aston Villa (2-0) that will be worrying the Palace fans. Roy Hodgson has some defensive issues ahead of the visit of Utd with Gary Cahill, Jeffrey Schlupp and James Tompkins all rated as doubtful. Joel Ward is expected to be available after he suffered a calf strain at Villa Park.
Betting
With a tough run of fixtures behind them and confidence and motivation seemingly at a low point it is hard to argue for anything but an away win at Selhurst Park however Palace are seeking a first ever league double over Utd following a 2-1 victory at Old Trafford early this season with Jordan Ayew and Patrick Van Aanholt getting the goals. Palace are as big as 10/1 Betfred. Jordan Ayew has had his best scoring season in English Football with 9 Premier League Goals to his name thus far, the Ghanaian is a best price 9/2 to score anytime with Betfred and hit the 10 goal mark.
Betfred.
Man Utd missed a glorious chance to gain a place in The Top 4 over the weekend when they conceded a 96th Minutes equalizer to Southampton at Old Trafford, Utd had looked in total control for much of the game after going in front but conceded from a corner for the 9th time this season with Michael Obafemi stabbing home at the back post. Whilst it was not an ideal result for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer his side are only outside the top 4 on goal difference and face 4th place Leicester on the final day of the season.
Team News
The draw with Southampton extended the unbeaten run Utd are on to an impressive 18 matches since they were beaten 0-2 at home by Burnley. 13 of those were victories including twice vs Man City and a 0-2 away win at Chelsea. Since the restart they have won 5 and drawn 2 of the 7 games played. Solksjaer will again be without Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe for the trip to South London but there are no other issues as Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba were only taken off against The Saints to rest them after a hectic 4 week period for both.
Betting
Utd had plenty of issues on the road in the early part of the season and they lost 6 of the first 10 away from Old Trafford but they are unbeaten since then and there have been some impressive wins and performances at Aston Villa (3-0) (Brighton (3-0) and Chelsea (2-0). Utd have not lost at Selhurst Park since a 2-1 defeat back in 1991 and they are a best price 1/3 with Coral to claim a 6th Win at Selhurst Park in the last 7 visits. Bruno Fernanes is in superb form right now and has 7 Premier League Goals to his name so far and has scored in 3 of the last 4 games. The Portuguese International has settled really well in England and looks the standout bet at 6/4 to score anytime with Betfred
