Man Utd v Chelsea
FA Cup Semi Final
Sunday 19th July 2020
Wembley Stadium
Man Utd are on course for a successful season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer despite there worst ever start to a Premier League season. They remain level on points with Leicester in the race for the top 4 sitting just outside on goal difference but with destiny in there own hands as they play the foxes in the final game of the season in what could be a winner take all contest. They are also all but into the last 8 of the Europa League as they hold a 5-0 lead over LASK in the last 16 tie. Utd are aiming for a second FA Cup triumph in 4 years having won the competiton in 2016-17 after beating Crystal Palace 2-1 after extra time.
Team News
Utd have had a straight forward run to the semi final with a Home win over Wolves (1-0) in Round 3 followed by away wins at Tranmere (6-0) Derby County (3-0) and Norwich (2-1)Solskjaer stated there are no fresh injury worries after the Palace win so he might make just a couple if changes with Luke Shaw and Nemanja Matic likely to return in place of Scott McTominay and Timothy Fosu-Mensah. Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones are the only players definitely ruled out of the semi final on Sunday.
Betting
Utd made it 19 matches unbeaten in all competitions with the 2-0 win over Crystal Palace on Thursday evening although they were fortunate with a couple of VAR Decisions that went there way. This is the 4th meeting between the sides this season with Utd winning the previous 3 (4-0 – 2-1 – 2-0) and they look healthy favourites at 11/1 with 888Sport (New Customers). Mason Greenwood has really impressed for Utd in recent weeks but it has been the consistent form of Bruno Fernandes that has caught the eye. The Portuguese International has already scored 8 goals since January and looks a good bet at 12/5 anytime with Betfred.
It has been an up and down season for Chelsea but if Frank Lampard can deliver the FA Cup in his first season in charge and Qualify for next seasons Champions League then it will be considered a success with plenty of optimism for next season with the signings of Hakim Ziyach and Timo Werner plus the promise of more. They sit 3rd in the Premier League currently 1 point ahead of Leicester and Man Utd with 2 games to play. The Blues have won four and lost 2 of the last 6 games since the Premier League restarted. Lampard will be concerned by the amount of goals they are conceded although they did get a rare clean sheet in the win over Norwich on Monday night.
Team News
Chelsea have reached the semi final stage after wins over Nottingham Forest (2-0) and Hull City (2-1) in the 3rd and 4th Round before a 1-0 win over Champions Liverpool in the 5th round and an impressive 1-0 away win at Leicester in the Quarter Finals. Lampard has reported no fresh injury worries from the Norwich win on Monday but has been dealt a major blow with the confirmed news that N’Golo Kante will not be fit to make the squad on Sunday. Lampard is likely to again start with Olivier Giroud after his goal against Norwich and the lack of form of Tammy Abraham.
Betting
Chelsea have a formidable record in FA Cup Semi Finals, they have won 9 of 11 since they beat Wimbledon in 1997, the only teams to beat them in Semi Finals in that period were Liverpool (2006) and Man City (2013). They seem to relish the big stage so the 16/1 on a Blues win with 888Sport (New Customers) looks excellent value. Christian Pulisic is in fine form for Chelsea and has scored 3 goals since the return and looks to be adjusting to life in England now. The American International should enjoy the wide open spaces at Wembley and is 7/2 to score anytime in 90 Minutes with Betfred
