10 – Eden Hazard

Eden Hazard is a surprise inclusion in this list given how he has struggled at Real Madrid since his move from Chelsea. The Belgian managed just 15 Appearances in his first season in Spain and contributed just one goal and two assists. He has struggled with injuries and also his weight since arriving at The Bernabeu but there is no doubting his talent on his day. Hazard proved time and time again at Chelsea that he was World Class across a number of seasons and he may well prove to be a good signing for Madrid in the long term. Had this been a list between 2015-19 then Hazard would have been a unanimous choice but we are surprised he made the Top 10 given his form last year.

9 – Sergio Aguero

Aguero just scores goals, he is absolutely vital for his Man City team and this has shown even more so since his latest injury has kept him out of the City side just how they have struggled without the Pocket Dynamite Argentinian. Although in the latter years of his career now he continues to be one of The Premier Leagues leading Marksmen and with 180 Premier League Goals in 261 Appearances there are not many better goal scorers that have graced the Premier League since it’s inception in 1992.

8 – Neymar

Does any footballer in the world divide opinion more than Neymar ? The Golden Boy of Brazilian Football was destined for greatness from an early age at Santos and when he got his dream move to Barcelona it looked ineveitable that he would take over from Leo Messi as he World’s best player. Neymar decided to pave his own path when he became the most expensive footballer of all time when he moved to PSG but will he look back on that move as a mistake when he ends his career. He has dominated in France but with numerous trophies but the critics will argue about the merits of Ligue 1. Some People love the flair and tricks that Neymar provides whilst others are frustrated by his play acting antics and his attitude.

7 – Sadio Mane

Sadio Mane may be a surprise to many to rank so highly on this list but if we look a little deeper he has been a major part of Liverpool’s rise in becoming European and now Premier League Champions. £38 Million pounds looked a lot of money when he signed from Southampton but once again Liverpool have found an absolute gem. Mane has got better season after season at Anfield and is part of arguably the most feared front three in world football. Simply put Mane is a Match Winner, capable of goal scoring or providing a piece of magic for a team mate. He continues to terrorize defenders both in England and Europe and is a worthy player in this list.

6 – Kylian Mbappe

Nobody will be surprised to see Kylian Mbappe on this list and there is little doubt that he will rank higher in the next couple of seasons. Still only 21 years old he is already a World Cup Winner with France and has won Ligue 1 every season since he has been a professional. The Champions League has eluded him thus far but with Mbappe likely to move to a European Heavyweight in the next 12-24 months you would imagine he will win that competition numerous times before his career ends. Mbappe is blessed with blistering pace but he also has a wonderful football brain and with time certainly on his time he could well go on to become one of the best players of all time.

5 – Virgil Van Dijk

It’s tough to slip defenders into ‘best of’ lists with a slew of goalscorer and attacking heroes but Virgil van Dijk more than earns his place among the best right now. He’s a Rolls Royce defender, an imperious figure who never looks flustered. The Dutchman is dominant on land and in the air (in both boxes) and is comfortably one of the key cogs in Liverpool’s champions-elect team.

4 – Kevin De Bruyne

De Bruyne is a technical genius, The Belgian sees passes and crosses that no other player in the world does. He doesnt have the boyish good looks of a David Beckham so doesnt maybe get the same limelight but there is no doubt that he is definately on a par if not ahead of the former England Captain in terms of crossing ability. He continues to post freakish numbers at Man City and in 2019-20 he equalled the Premier League record of most assists in a season with 20. Without doubt the most complete footballer on this list and will go on to become the greatest player in Man City history should he stay at The Etihad.

3 – Robert Lewandowski

Lewandowski was a “Cloud Ash” away from signing for Blackburn Rovers back in 2012 and how different his career could have been. That would have seen Rovers pay just £3 million pounds for the Pole. Since then he has gone on to be a world class striker with both Dortmund and Bayern Munich. There is no more clinical finisher in the world right now than Lewandowski and his record at Bayern Munich is just stupidly good. At the time of this article he had 231 goals in 276 games and finally got his hands on The Champions League at the end of the 2019-20 season.

2 – Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo just keeps producing, It surprised many when he moved from Madrid to Juventus and many wondered if he could match his goal scoring feats in Spain in the notoriously defensive Italian League but we should never have doubted the great man. He may be 35 years old now but he continues to rack up impressive numbers at Juve with 53 Goals in 75 games for the old lady. He has been a superstar in England, Spain and now Italy. There is no doubt that Ronaldo deserves to be in the conversation when discussing the best footballer to ever grace the Planet.

1 – Lionel Messi

It was almost unthinkable that Messi would leave the Nou Camp in the summer of 2020 but it almost happened. Despite now being 33 years old he remains the talisman at Barcelona and continues to post incredible numbers in a side that is clearly on the decline. Messi still has that “Aura” about him and continues to torment La Liga defenders with his dribbling skills and passing ability. Not one to want the limelight Messi has continued to do what he has throughout his career during 2020 and rightfully takes his place at Number 1 and who would bet against him staying there for years to come. The Argentine is simply that good !!
